Service Hours
Service learning teaches the skills of civil participation and develops an ethic of service and civic responsibility. Students can provide service in the community on a voluntary basis to public, non-profit agencies, civic, charitable, and governmental organizations, and school campuses.
- Students are required to complete a minimum of 40 service-learning hours for high school graduation.
- 30 service learning and volunteer service hours are required to qualify for the Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Program (one of the Bright Futures Scholarships).
- 75 service learning and volunteer service hours are required to qualify for the Florida Medallion Scholars Program (one of the Bright Futures Scholarships).
- 100 service learning and volunteer service hours are required to qualify for the Florida Academic Scholars Program (one of the Bright Futures Scholarships).
- 250 volunteer service hours are required to earn a silver cord at graduation.
Listed below are the steps for completing service hours.
Step 1. Submit Student Volunteer Service Application and Approval Form and receive approval from the appropriate grade level school counselor in Administration prior to performing service hours.
Step 2. Complete grade-level appropriate Service-Learning Log Sheet.
Step 3. Make a copy of the Service-Learning Log Sheet for personal records prior to submitting it to the appropriate grade-level school counselor.
